Well yesterday was Sunday and that's my break day. I give myself a break from news, homework, politics and any other contentious and or stressful subject. But as I logged on to check my email I saw an interesting news story on Yahoo news, which I wish I would have saved the link so I could post it on this blog. At the bottom I'll post a Baltimore Sun version of the story.
The headline said something to the affect of "Lohan attacked with flour bombs" I was of course intrigued by the headline, and with so much controversy about prop 8 going on I assumed that such an incident would be caused by some anti-gay/lesbian hate monger. But as I began to read I was even more intrigued. Lindsay Lohan was attacked with flour bombs by a PETA activists!
Of the attack Lohan’s girlfriend Samantha Ronson wrote on her blog that "the girl who threw it acted like an animal herself. I take that back, it's an insult to animals to group her in with them, my dog is FAR more civilized than that person."
So there we have it, Lindsay Lohan hammered with flower bombs...by an animal rights activist. I'm waiting for marches in front of PETA headquarters all a crossed America against intolerance, as Ronson went on to write “I don’t wear fur but I don’t have the right to ATTACK those who do!”
I'm also waiting for the legions of lawmakers to jump at the opportunity to pass another hate crimes bill, making flour bombing a felony as serious as homicide or betting on dog fights. Maybe even both of those felonies combined.
The bill would have to pass. If all else fails lawmakers would have to do what they always do. Just throw in the words civil rights act, or for the children, patriot, or fairness and then it would have to pass. Because no matter what actually says no one wants to be seen as voting against civil rights, children, or fairness. (Well, accept for Ronald Reagan, if memory serves he was the only US President to veto a bill with the title Civil Rights Act)
OK, I'm done waiting because it's just not going to happen. Some groups in this country make easier targets to be labeled hate mongers than others. And by nature (pun intended), animal rights activists cannot be classified as hate mongers.
